But I was intrigued when I heard on how an Book Aggregator is a good way to "distribute" your e-book, very much like how a distributor distributes physical books. Among many e-Book companies out there, Book Baby caught my attention. Not that Goh himself uses Book baby, but my author uncle also shared the the benefits of using their services.
Bingo! Now that two authors have shared about it, it's a calling, isn't it? Time to find out more about BookBaby. In my next post, I'll share what another speaker Mr Eric Alagan shared on how he, as an engineer and a business consultant, can write fiction books. He has written three Fiction and three Non-Fiction books. I am not a toastmasters member, but I did attend some toastmasters session a few times since last year.
However, I was delighted to be invited to share with the Radin Mas Toastmasters members on the topic "Engaging the Audience: Theatre-style!". It was heartening to see about 20 members attended the session, where according to the organiser, Mike Seah, most of the attendees who came specifically wanting to attend my segment. I felt so honoured. Hope that the info and activities I shared were useful for the members and that the activities could add to the members' repertoire of games and ice. :) Thanks, Radin Mas TM. It has been a wait. The Stage Fright Antidote! was finally launched with about 60 guests sharing the joyous occasion at Bishan Public Library on 8 June 2013, 3 pm. Graced by Mr Gene Tan, Director National Library Singapore, the Book Launch Party event kicked-off with an inspiring opening remarks by Mr Tan. Mr Tan then launched the book which followed by a sharing session by myself on my motivations writing the book. After a book presentation to some individuals who have inspired me to write the book, it's all food galore and book signing. As I did not want the event to be just about me and the book, I got my buddies, who were talented in caricatures and creating buttons/ badges , to set set up booths and guests could get hold of caricatures and/ or buttons - for FREE. I managed to asked Mr Tan on his experience at the book launch, and he said, "I left feeling happier than when I went. Magic!" Honoured to be invited to speak on creativity for SIngapore Customs as part of the organisation's Learning Festival. Event was held on 22 May 2013.
I was invited by Mr William Xavier for his programme "20 Questions" on radio 938Live.
During the recording, questions like "If someone were to play you in a movie, who would it be like?" and "Why did you write about the book?" were asked and information were shared. Most of the topics discussed and shared were more towards my upcoming book launch "A Book Launch Party: The Stage Fright Antidote!", 8 June, 3-4pm at Bishan Public Library "20 Questions" by William Xavier will be on air on 17 May 2013 at 7-8pm; and encore on 18 May 2013 at 8-9pm. I was one of the invited speakers at the monthly meeting (25 April 2013) of Association of Professional Trainers. In this session, I shared several theatre and creative games that trainers can use in their own training sessions.
An exciting month of August. Conducted a couple of creativity programmes at Civil Service College (30 Aug) and Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) (15 Aug).
Earlier in the month, in conjunction of the National Day celebration, did the honour of training the Seng Kang Secondary Sch drama club to put up a National Day performance (3 skits) on 8 Aug. Undergone a filming for Munah and Hirzi; partnering actor Raffi Khan - reuniting on set after so long. The last time we had acting project together was a stageplay at Victoria Theatre in 2005 in a play called "Villa Singa" directed by Nadiputra. I think my prayers were answered!
For the first time in my theatre involvement, I got my big break to perform on an overseas soil - my first theatre performance at Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (DBP) Auditorium. The history in the making was on 28 April 2012. (My first theatre involvement, ironically, was in April too - 17 April 1997 at Victoria Theatre!) A month earlier, I have gotten a call from Roslan Daud of Teater Artistik, asking me if I would be interested to perform "Bicara". After checking my schedule, I agreed. Fast forward a month later, I was on a bus trip to KL. While the rest of the team flew there, I decided to take a bus and enjoy the 5-hour journey up north while watching movies and eating tidbits. My way of unwinding! At the auditorium, it was my second visit there. The first was some 6 years ago when I watched the first stageplay at the venue - "Wangi Jadi Saksi". The show was organised as part of DBP Auditorium opening ceremnoy. And 6 years later, I was back, this time as a performer! Overall, it was an awesome experience! |
